CLUB ALBUM
One entry per school. Dated from the day after the State contest each year until the day before the next State contest. May include pictures, articles, artifacts, etc., concerning activities of the German Club. Size and format is open to the choice of the entry. Should be as original as possible. This should not be just a photo album, but rather a record of the German Club activities. Be sure to include the name of contestant(s), school, and city on or inside the entry itself.
GINGERBREAD HOUSES
THERE ARE TWO CATEGORIES and each school may enter one house in each of these categories: 
TRADITIONAL HOUSES are "houses" like the Haensel and Gretel house.
and NON TRADITIONAL structures such as tree houses, shoe houses, castles, churches, etc.
Entry must have an attached card with the name of the school and the entrant's name.
Use any recipe. All the parts of the house must be edible. SIZE: Minimum house size (length and/or width), 9"; maximum, 24". No taller than 24". Measurements will be made from wall to wall. with a 1/2" variance. Any animals and figures must also be edible.
Maximum amount of money to be spent: $45.00 per house.
House builders must show a receipt for expenses. Photos of the actual building of the house would be helpful to the judges in determining if the house was actually built by the students.
Students must build all houses from scratch. No kits.
This must be a house or structure with a roof on it. Each house should have a card with the name, school name and type of house on it.
If the house does not adhere to all the rules stated above, it must be disqualified from judging.
Building a Gingerbread Haus takes concentration and groceries!
NEEDLEWORK
Two entries per school. May be an individual or a group project. Entries may be hooked rugs, embroidery, needlepoint, cross-stitch, or quilting. No knitting. Must be related to a German theme, such as state or national symbols, landscape, folk traditions, fairy tales, proverbs, etc. Just something German-speaking related. Attached to the entry should be receipts showing that the cost was not more than $30.00. Entry must have an attached card with the name of the school and the entrant's name.
DOLL COSTUMES
Student made folk costumes for dolls. Two entries per school. May be an individual or a group project. The doll costume must be made for a doll at least 12 inches tall and not over 36 inches tall. Barbie Doll size costumes will not be accepted.
There must be a backdrop, no smaller than one piece of poster board, and no larger than three pieces of poster board. These are to contain information about the costume and the place it represents. Please cite the sources of information. Attached to the backdrop should be receipts showing that the cost was not more than $30.00.
The costume will be judged on workmanship, the details, the backdrop presentation and the representation of a traditional costume. The costume may be representative of traditions in: Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Liechtenstein. Entry must have an attached card with the name of the school and the entrant's name.
PHOTO ESSAY
One entry per school. May be individual or group project. Photos may be either black and white or color, or a combination of both.
Any size photo is acceptable. Photos must be mounted on only ONE sheet of poster board (22" by 26"). Minimum number of photos, 10; Maximum, 20. The photos may concern any subject, but a narrative MUST accompany them.
Story in GERMAN. The story must be written on the poster board next to or under each of the pictures. The entry will be disqualified if the name of the person(s), the school, the city are not on the back of the photo essay.
POSTER DESIGN
One entry per school. May be about any topic. There must be at least 10 different German words on the poster, or 10 words forming a complete German sentence or phrase. It must be on ONE piece of poster board, size 22’’ by 26’’. May be on individual or a group entry. Must have the name of entry, school, and city on the back of the poster design. Posters must be made with hand drawing and hand-made extras. NO COMPUTER MADE POSTERS
T-SHIRT DESIGN
One entry per school. No German Club T-shirts. All words must be in German, with a minimum of 5 different words. NO MAXIMUM. T-shirts must be hand-made designs. No computer made T-shirts. No store bought decals. The design may be silk-screened, copied or painted on a T-shirt or a sweatshirt. For the design to be eligible, it must be on a shirt. Be sure the name, school, and city of the entry are attached to it.
VIDEO SHOW
One entry per school. Individual or group project. It may be entered in the following categories: Original Production(screenplay). The format is a standard VHS tape or a DVD. The VCR/DVD Player and TV will be provided. No European formats, please!
The dialogue must be in German. Three copies of the script must be given to the judges. The student filmmakers need not be present. The tapes and the script should be in a 9 by 12 manila envelope, clearly marked with name, name of school and teacher's name. The judges will collect these envelopes 10 minutes before the time for each presenation on the day of the contest.
Judging includes originality, German dialogue, and the professional quality of the video presentation. This may not be a tape of your play, skit or duet pieces. It must be an original documentary or screenplay. Time limit: Not less than 6 minutes and not more than 15 minutes. At least 6 students must be included in the filmed story or documentary. Creativity is encouraged.
5A Oils and Acrylics - 3 entries per school
5B Pastels and Watercolors - 3 entries per school
5C Black and White - 3 entries per school
5D Photography - 3 entries per school
Single entries of German subject matter with a minimum size of 5" x 7". These may not be photographs of photographs in a book. Photos may be black and white or in color.
5F Models 3 entries per school - These must be from original designs not from kits!
